Fillmore TV’s ‘Dragons’ reboot: Will it ever make a movie?
“I hope it does,” says Ravi Shankar.
The former director of the BBC India-produced series Dragon Quest, who now heads the film and TV division at Disney, is on a mission to remake the series, which he says he has “finally” completed.
“I’ve been doing it for three years now, and I feel it’s time to finally do it,” Shankar says.
I hope to have the show in theaters by December 31. “
The dragons have come to Disney, they have come back, and they have arrived.
The animated series premiered in 2013 and was a critical and commercial success, earning more than $1 billion in worldwide box office. “

The animated series premiered in 2013 and was a critical and commercial success, earning more than $1 billion in worldwide box office.
The show, which featured a diverse cast of characters including a dragon named Nala, was inspired by Shankar’s childhood in Bengaluru and his fascination with dragons.
The series also won numerous awards including best foreign language animated series at the Golden Globes, among others.
Shankar hopes the show will be a hit in the Indian market and that it will be seen on multiple platforms.
“Disney has been working on a movie for a long time,” he says.
Shanker says that he has been approached by several foreign companies to do a remake of the show.
“But they were scared off by my ambition,” he explains.
“They wanted me to come up with a lot of money, and not to be able to take on such an ambitious project.”
Shankar is not the only one in the Disney Animation studio that wants to remake a popular franchise.
“In the last few years we have been working hard to make the film into a true sequel, and we’re just finishing it now,” Disney chairman Alan Horn told Entertainment Weekly in May.
“And we’re still in the very early stages of planning the film.”
